A group of health promotion and nursing students recently returned from 10-days in the remote Fijian highlands.
The students gained valuable pre-service experience and exposure to the unique issues presented by remote area and tropical health, as well as a life-changing cultural immersion experience.
The students consulted with a cross-section of stakeholders in the highland region, gathering data for a needs assessment informing a proposal for a nursing station in our host village. The expedition provided valuable support for a key Dreaming Project- the collaborative construction of a nursing station to address the lack of proximate health care in the village.
The visit, led by Destination Dreaming Program Co-ordinator Clint Miller, was successful in raising the awareness of the Fiji Military, who have pledged support in clearing the proposed construction site.
